Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
by 1stsitefree.com - Page 1

SEO BullseyeWhat is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? Here is one definition.

Designing a Web site so that search engines easily find the pages and index them. The goal is to have your page be within the first page of results.
Why frames and search engine optimization don’t mix!

Search engine marketing can be time consuming - you can hire an expert to do it for you; but, if you are up to it, you can also learn how to do it yourself. So, let's get started.

Keyword Density, Page Title, and Link Popularity all play a part in where your webpage appears in the search engines. These are discussed below:

  • Keyword Density: The percentage of words on a web page that match a specified set of keywords. In the context of search engine optimization keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase.
  • Page Title: Page title is the most important element of a quality Web page.
  • Link Popularity: A measure of the quantity and quality of other Websites that link to a specific site on the World Wide Web.

Keyword Phrases

Your first step is to determine all three word keyword phrases that you are currently using in the text of your Web page.

  1.  Use SEO-Tools Keyword Density Analyzer to help you identify your keywords and the keyword frequencies for the text that appears on your page. This tool will analyze your chosen URL and return a table of keyword density values for one, two, or three word key terms.
  2. Save the three word key terms identified by the SEO-Tools Keyword Density Analyzer for your future reference.
  3. Use the above three word key terms for future keywords use.
  4. Repeat the above 3 steps for each webpage you optimize or create in the future.

Page Title

Create a Title Tag related to the subject matter of each page (10 to 15 words, 64 characters maximum). Every page must have a unique title. Do not use the same title on every page of your Website.

  • World Wide Web Consortium states that ideally your title should be 64 characters or less and that titles may be truncated if it’s longer than that.
  • The Page Title for this page is shown below:
    <HEAD>

    </HEAD>
  • All titles should be typed in Title Case. An excellent resource for learning title case capitalization rules is Writer's Block - Writing Tips - Capitalization in Titles. Headers should also use Title Case.

Link Popularity

The most important factor in getting others to link to your site is having a site worthy of a link. In other words, have a site or page a site owner thinks would be of benefit to their audience.

  • Provide linking instructions or link images for those who want to link to your Website. Provide the wording you'd like them to use in their link. For their convenience provide the ready-made HTML code for the link. See my linking instructions on this page.
  • After your Website is completed, look for quality sites that would be complimentary to your audience and exchange links with them.
