Step 6 - Promotion (Continued)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Optimize Each Page - Page 2

Optimize Each Page

You should consider that each Web page on your site is a separate entry point and optimize it before you submit your page (URL) to any search engine.

First Paragraph of Your Body Text.

Search engines expect that your first paragraph will contain the important keywords for the document. Make sure your keywords appear in the first paragraph of Your body text.

Use keywords in the H1, H2, and H3 tags

Don't expect the search engine to parse your Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) to figure out which are the headlines -- it won't. Instead, use your keywords in the H1, H2, and H3 tags to provide clues to the search engine. (Note: Some designers no longer use the H1, H2 or H3 tags. That's a mistake.)

Meta Tags:

META Tags are hidden text that are placed in the HEAD section of your HTML page. They are used by most major search engines to index your Web pages. Note: META Tags are not the only thing search engines will look at when ranking your Webpages - some search engines will ignore META Tags completely.
This page will help you create Meta Tags.

Gif/JPEG/PNG Images:

If you use images on your page, try to add a keyword into your ALT Tags. Do not repeat keywords more than 3-7 times.

Hyperlinks:

All of your top keywords should appear in hyperlinks that lead to internal pages on your site.

Go to Page 3: Sitemap.
