New Create Your First Podcast for Free

Audio broadcast available on the Web to the public for free downloading to a personal computer or a digital audio player. Despite its name, a podcast may be played through a variety of digital audio software and hardware.

The term podcasting was originally named after the popular iPod device, and the podcasting trend has been fueled by iPod owners ravenously searching for content to fill up their iPods.

Don't I need an iPod or other portable device to listen to a podcast? No. If you can hear an MP3 recording, you can play a podcast.

Here are some reasons you might want to create your own podcast:

  1. You want to stay in touch with friends and family over long distances.
  2. You always wanted your own talk show but you don’t own a radio station or work at one.
  3. You’re a musician and you want to build up a fan base by providing some of your music to potential fans.
  4. You’re a speaker and you want to sell a multi-part audio seminar but don’t want to create CDs, labels, mail them, etc. (Yes, you can use podcasting for profit, too.)
  5. You already have a radio show but you want to make certain segments available to the world to increase your reputation and reach.
  6. You’re a book author and you want to interest people in buying it by offering a few spoken pages each week to entice them.
  7. Keeping employees up-to-date on the latest company news.
  8. Distributing news, tutorials, and other information.
  9. Sharing music.
  10. Amateur radio shows.
  11. And more... you're limited only by your imagination and creativity.

Go to http://www.gcast.com/user and register for a free account and begin podcasting in just a few easy steps:

  1. Provide an active email address, postcode (U.S. users only), country, password, and display name. You can also choose the descriptions that are most appropriate to you (artist, fan, producer, etc.). Then, read the user agreement. Once you're ready, click on the 'I Agree, create my account' button.
  2. Check your email account for a confirmation from Gcast.com and follow the instructions. Please note that sometimes, the confirmation email takes a few minutes to arrive.
  3. Begin creating a playlist when you browse the different songs available on Garageband. When you like a song, just click on 'Save to Playlist' or 'Add to Playlist'.
  4. You can also upload audio or MP3 files to your playlist. Just make sure that you are not infringing on anyone's copyright when you upload these files. You can add your own voice commentary using this feature.
  5. Go to your GarageBand account's administration interface (yourusername's garage). There, you will find a link to the 'Garageband Podcast Studio'. Click on that link.
  6. Mix your chosen favorite songs and uploaded audio clips using the 'Playlist Manager'.
  7. Click on the 'Publish' link and edit your podcast entry's details - subject, description, and other information. When you click on the 'Publish This Podcast' button, you will be taken to your podcast entry's page. You can further edit your entry or get the code to embed in to your blog (just click on the 'Embed this podcast in any website.' link).
  8. You can choose from an autoplay code or a code that waits for user to press play. Copy the code and paste it in to a blog entry or webpage.
