Design Tutorial - Graphics

With a careful selection of icons, bullets, and bars you can give the your site a personality all its own. See the guidelines below on using graphics:

• Graphics are cached by your visitor's computer and should be reused throughout your site. This will also help give your visitor a sense of continuity and consistency.
• Since smaller graphics download quickly, your graphics should be small in size (less than 32K).
• Every graphic link should have a matching text link.
• Graphics and backgrounds should use only browser-safe colors.
• Animated graphics should turn off by themselves. Moving images distracts from the actual content.
• The GIF format works best with buttons, icons, cartoons, line art and text images.
• JPEG is usually a better file format to use for photographs.
• PNG was created to both improve upon and replace the GIF format with an image file format that does not require a patent license to use. PNG is pronounced as "ping".
• Always use height, width and the ALT HTML Tags with your images.
• If you over use graphics, they can seriously slow down the page's loading time and clutter your design.
